Reichel/Pugh-Nauta 47m Nilaya Debuts at the St Barths Bucket with a Win, 66.8m Hetairos Triumphs in Class.
The 2024 St. Barths Bucket saw an uptick in numbers as 30 of the world’s most magnificent Superyachts and over a thousand sailors descended on the island of St. Barthelemy. During the three days of racing, the fleet circled St. Barths island and navigated around local rocks and islets that are used as the natural marks on the racing course.

Reichel/Pugh’s latest superyacht flagship Design #283, the REICHEL/PUGH-NAUTA 154 NILAYA combines Reichel/Pugh’s four decades of design expertise partnered with builder Royal Huisman's new holistic Featherlight™ construction method to invent the next iconic luxury global cruising yacht capable of podium finishes at the top superyacht regattas. She has just made her racing debut in the 2024 St Barths Bucket Les Gazelles class, which is reserved for the larger, faster-rated superyachts, with a win in Race 3!
Alongside Nilaya in class was Reichel/Pugh design 66.8m Hetairos the overall Bucket winner in both 2022 and 2019. Hetairos boasts a carbon composite hull, lifting keel, and nearly 3,000 square metres of sails.

Nilaya's race captain, Bouwe Bekking posted, "We sailed better every day, but even with two perfect races it was impossible to beat the ketches on handicap in ORCsy. C’est la Vie? Nilaya overall: third in ‘Les Gazelles’ class."
“The new Nilaya is not in any way a development of her predecessor," Jim Pugh explains, "naval architecture has come a long way since the launch of the first Nilaya in 2010. Our knowledge base has expanded dramatically and the CFD hydro tools we now use provide far more accurate computational results, both in flat water and waves. The new Nilaya’s naval architecture is the beginning of a new era in Superyacht design.”
It was Reichel/Pugh's 220' Hetairos that won the 2024 St Barths Bucket Gazelles class overall. Hetairos also took first place in the Performance Ouveurts class, after dual scoring was applied, thereby securing a reputation for herself as “a wolf in wolf’s clothing,” to quote her captain.
Come aboard the 2023 Reichel/Pugh-Nauta 154 Nilaya!

The St. Barths Bucket regatta, beloved by owners and crew from around the world, debuted in the USA as the “Nantucket Bucket” (in Nantucket, Massachusetts) in 1986. It moved to St Barths in 1995 and has repeated annually since, becoming a fond addition to local life.
