The newly crowned Maxi World Champion, Reichel/Pugh-designed Wallycento Magic Carpet3 was victorious again winning her class at Les Voiles de Saint Tropez. Owner Lindsay Owen-Jones and crew received the North Sail Trophy, awarded to the winner of the IRC1 class. Alessandro del Bono's Reichel/Pugh 80 IMS Maxi Capricorno finished 2nd overall in the IRC 3 Class of 15. He recently won the Mini Maxi Class 2 at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup.
The Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, week two at Les Voiles, took on giant proportions fielding an extraordinary line-up of 45 maxi contenders. This figure makes Voiles the biggest Maxi event in the world this year, a true "sailing mecca," as Corinne Migraine, Vice-President of the French Sailing Federation, noted.
One of the longest supporters of both the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and the International Maxi Association Owen Jones was delighted by the result. "He is pretty stoked," said Magic Carpet3’s captain Danny Gallichan. Referring to classmates 98’ Leopard, 88’ Rambler and 100’ Comanche, purely built for racing, "It is different for us - quite a diverse class, but it is super interesting to compete with all those other boats." Until 2019, Magic Carpet3 usually competed in the Wally class at events such as this.

Alessandro del Bono's Reichel/Pugh 80 IMS Maxi Capricorno finished 2nd overall in the IRC 3 Class of 15. He recently won the Mini Maxi Class 2 at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and reflected then that, “we are obviously pleased, in spite of being 26 years old, the boat has proved that it's still very fast. This victory is a great reward for both the crew, most of whom have been with us for 25 years, and for my father and my son, we have three generations of the family on board.”
